Why I Took a Year Off And Why I’m Coming Back Now?

A year ago, I went silent. No tweets. No updates. No curated stories. No carefully framed reflections. Just quiet. At first, I told myself it was a break. In truth, it became a reckoning. It was a year of stepping away from noise so I could face what was left when all the titles, meetings, expectations, and applause were stripped away. I needed to pause the performance of success and confront the questions I was too busy to answer:

  • Who am I when no one is watching?
  • What do I believe in when there’s nothing left to prove?
  • What kind of leader, man, and legacy am I building?

What the Silence Taught Me ?

I thought stillness would feel like emptiness. Instead, it became clarity. In the silence, I rediscovered a more profound conviction: that impact isn’t just something I want to achieve. It’s who I want to become. It’s not enough for me to succeed in business, build platforms, or lead companies. If my success does not extend dignity to others, especially the most vulnerable, then it falls short of my calling. I also learned that purpose and pace are not the same.

In a world that rewards speed, I was reminded that fundamental transformation within and beyond takes time. And that healing, whether personal or communal, doesn’t happen in the spotlight. I wrestled with failure, walked through grief, and sat in questions. Slowly, I began to see that all of it, the ache, the ambition, the silence, was shaping me into someone more grounded, more aligned, and more courageous. Now, I return not with noise but with purpose.

A New Climb for a New Cause

In just a few weeks, I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. But this isn’t about adventure or checking a box on a bucket list. This is a climb for mothers. Together with four friends, I’ve committed to summiting Kilimanjaro to raise $29,475 a dollar for every meter of elevation to fund the construction and equipping of a new maternity wing at Concession District Hospital in Zimbabwe. And I’m proud to share that Grace Life Foundation, a social impact organization I founded, will serve as the implementing partner on the ground. Our team will manage fund disbursement and construction oversight and ensure full accountability and transparency from start to finish.

Why Concession? Why Now?

Concession District Hospital is the primary referral center for thousands of women in Mashonaland Central. Yet, its current maternity infrastructure is stretched beyond capacity. Mothers are giving birth in overcrowded rooms. Beds are scarce. Dignity is compromised.

This maternity wing will:

  • Expand the number of safe births the hospital can handle
  • Reduce maternal and newborn mortality rates
  • Provide medical staff with improved working conditions
  • Restore dignity to women during one of life’s most vulnerable moments

It’s not just a structure. It’s a symbol of what happens when people choose compassion over comfort.

Why Grace Life Foundation?

Because this is what we were built for.

Grace Life Foundation exists to deliver sustainable change in African communities by addressing systemic gaps in healthcare and human dignity. We believe in locally driven solutions built by people who know the terrain both literally and figuratively.

This project aligns fully with our mission, and our team is committed to ensuring that every dollar raised goes directly toward the impact we’ve promised.

Why Kilimanjaro?

Because some mountains you climb for yourself. Others, you climb so that others may rise. This climb is symbolic of the uphill struggle that many African women face just to access basic, safe healthcare. It’s a physical expression of the emotional and structural mountain they climb every day.

For me, it’s also a personal declaration That leadership must be inconvenient. That purpose must cost you something. If we want to lead with purpose, we must be willing to do the hard things to go uphill. This climb is my offering that we cannot build a better world from a place of comfort alone.

How You Can Join Us

We need to raise $29,475 before summit day and we can’t do it alone.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Donate: Every dollar brings us closer to building the maternity wing. https://gofund.me/63f57e8d
  • Share: Spread the word. The more people know the more impact we can have.
  • Follow: I’ll be documenting the full journey training, reflections, and milestones on Instagram, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

All funds raised will be stewarded by Grace Life Foundation and fully accounted for. This is a community-built vision. We just happen to be climbing the mountain.

This Is More Than a Campaign

This is a return to what matters. This is about legacy. About leadership. About lives. The silence of the past year shaped me, but now it’s time to speak again, not louder, but clearer.
